The Rain Bird Certified Residential and
Light Commercial Installation Program

The Rain Bird Certified Residential and Light Commercial Installation program is an EPA Water Sense labeled certification program intended for experienced irrigation professionals. This certification covers professionally installed water efficient residential or small commercial irrigation systems – containing pipes 2 ½ inches or less in diameter. Once an individual becomes a Rain Bird Certified Residential and Light Commercial Installer, they are eligible to become an EPA Water Sense Partner. There are three paths to obtaining the certification. Which path is right for you is determined by your professional irrigation experience.

What does it take to become a Rain Bird Certified Residential and Light Commercial Installer?

We recognize that significant irrigation experience counts for a lot, so we have three paths from which the experienced irrigation contractor can choose. 

Path 1: Individuals, who want to become a Rain Bird Certified Residential and Light Commercial Installer taking Path 1, must meet the following eligibility and certification requirements.

Path 1 Eligibility
To be eligible for Path 1, you must score 70% or better on the certification prequalifying exam, complete all required application materials, have 3 years of irrigation industry experience, have 1,200 hours of verifiable installation experience and complete 8 hours of verifiable irrigation education in each of the following areas: Irrigation Installation, Maintenance and Troubleshooting and Landscape Irrigation Design and/or Hydraulics.

Path 1 Certification Requirements
The Certification requirement for Path 1 is the successful completion of the 3-1/2 day Rain Bird Residential and Light Commercial Installation Workshop and a score 70% or better on the written certification exam.

Path 2:  Individuals, who want to become a Rain Bird Certified Residential and Light Commercial Installer taking Path 2, must meet the following eligibility and certification requirements.

Path 2 Eligibility
To be eligible for Path 2, you must score 70% or better on the certification prequalifying exam, complete all required application materials, have 5 years of verifiable irrigation industry experience, have 2400 hours of irrigation installation experience and complete 8 hours of verifiable irrigation education in each of the following areas: Irrigation Installation, Maintenance and Troubleshooting and Landscape Irrigation Design and/or Hydraulics.

Path 2 Certification Requirements
The Certification requirement for Path 2 is the successful completion the practical certification exam and a score 70% or better on the written certification exam.

Path 3:  Individuals, who want to become a Rain Bird Certified Residential and Light Commercial Installer taking Path 3, must meet the following eligibility and certification requirements.

Path 3 Eligibility
To be eligible for Path 3, you must score 70% or better on the certification prequalifying exam, complete all required application materials, have 7 years of verifiable irrigation industry experience and have 3600 hours of irrigation installation experience.

Path 3 Certification Requirements
The certification requirement for Path 3 is the successful completion of the practical certification exam and a score 70% or better on the written certification exam. 

Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and pay all fees prior to a review of the individual’s eligibility to take Rain Bird Certified Residential and Light Commercial Installer written certification exam.
